Privacy Policy for PAYE Calculator NZ

Every calculator on this site runs entirely in your browser. Your salary, tax code, KiwiSaver rate, student loan status and every other input are used to do arithmetic on your own device and are then discarded when you close the page.

They are not sent to a server, not written to a database, not logged, and not shared with anyone. We could not produce a record of what you calculated if we were asked to, because no such record is created.

There is no sign-up, no login and no user profile. The site carries no advertising, sets no advertising cookies, and does not sell, rent or share personal information with data brokers or advertisers.

It does use one analytics provider, which sets two cookies. Section 3 names it, lists both cookies and explains how to switch them off.

This site uses Google Analytics 4 to count visits. Its measurement ID is G-FPX3L7T1DY, which appears in the page source of every page on this site, including this one. The tag loads after the page becomes interactive.

It records which pages are opened, the page that referred you, your browser and device type, and an approximate location derived from your network. It receives nothing you type into a calculator, because no calculator input leaves your browser in the first place. Google states that Analytics 4 does not log or store IP addresses.

Neither cookie below is set until you accept.The tag loads with storage consent denied, which is Google's Consent Mode default state, so on a first visit it counts the page view without writing anything to your browser. Accepting the banner switches storage on. Declining leaves it off and records the answer so you are not asked again.

Those two are the only cookies this site ever sets. There are no advertising cookies, no cross-site tracking pixels and no third-party marketing tags.

Choosing Decline on the banner is the simplest way to keep them off. Your answer is stored in your browser under pcnz-analytics-consent-v1, in local storage rather than in a cookie, because recording a refusal of cookies in a cookie would be an odd way to go about it. Clearing your browser's site data for this domain resets the answer and the banner asks again.

Two further options work regardless of what you chose here. You can install Google's Analytics opt-out browser add-on, or block cookies for this domain in your browser settings. Every calculator on this site works with cookies blocked, because the arithmetic runs on your own device.

New Zealand has no cookie consent requirement equivalent to the European one, so the banner is a choice rather than an obligation. The visit data itself sits in Google's systems under Google's retention settings for this property, not in a database of ours.

Like any website, requests reach a web server that keeps standard technical logs. These may include your IP address, the page requested, the time of the request, your browser type and the referring page.

These logs exist to keep the site available and secure, for example to identify an outage or block abusive traffic. They are not used to build a profile of you and are not combined with anything you type into a calculator, because nothing you type reaches the server in the first place.

If you email us, we hold that message and your email address for as long as it takes to deal with your enquiry and to keep a record of corrections made to the site.

Please do not send us your IRD number, bank details or a copy of your payslip. We do not need them to check a rate, and we would rather not hold them. See contact for what a useful correction report contains.

This site links to Inland Revenue, Employment New Zealand, Statistics New Zealand and other external sites so you can verify a figure at its source. Those sites have their own privacy policies, which govern what they collect once you follow a link.

You have the right to ask what personal information we hold about you, to ask for it to be corrected, and to complain if you believe it has been mishandled.

In practice we hold nothing about you unless you have emailed us. To make a request, contact privacy@payecalculatornz.co.nz. We respond within 20 working days. If you are not satisfied, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner.

If this policy changes, the effective date above changes with it, and any change that affects what is collected will be described rather than slipped in. The current version always lives at this address.
