Disclaimer for PAYE Calculator NZ

Effective: 31 July 2026Last updated: 31 July 2026

PAYE Calculator NZ publishes estimates of New Zealand take-home pay based on rates published by Inland Revenue and Employment New Zealand. Using this site means you accept this disclaimer. If you do not accept it, do not rely on the figures.

1.Estimates, not a determination of your tax

Every figure on this site is an estimate produced by applying published rates to the numbers you entered. It is not a calculation of your actual tax liability, not a statement of your entitlements, and not a document Inland Revenue or your employer is bound by.

Your real pay depends on your tax code, your pay frequency, your employer's payroll system and any deductions this site cannot see. Where a figure here disagrees with your payslip, your payslip is the document with standing.

2.This is not tax, financial or legal advice

Nothing on this site is personal tax advice, financial advice or legal advice, and no client or advisory relationship is created by using it. The site reports what the published rules are and what the arithmetic gives. It does not know your circumstances and never recommends a course of action.

For advice about your own position, talk to a chartered accountant or a licensed financial adviser. For your tax account, contact Inland Revenue directly.

3.What the calculator deliberately excludes

The calculator models the payslip waterfall and stops there. It does not model:

  • Working for Families, which is a payment from Inland Revenue rather than a deduction, and depends on household details the site never asks for
  • child support deductions, and Commissioner-directed student loan deductions of up to 5% on top of the standard rate, both of which are directed per person
  • court fines, union fees and other voluntary or ordered deductions
  • fringe benefits, employee share schemes and other non-cash remuneration
  • the prescribed investor rate on KiwiSaver fund earnings, which taxes what your fund earns rather than what your employer pays you
  • part-year employment: the annual view assumes a full year at the income entered

The methodology carries the complete list and the reasoning behind each exclusion.

4.Rounding and pay-period differences

Inland Revenue truncates rather than rounds, at defined points inside each pay period. An annual figure divided by 26 will therefore differ by cents from 26 actual fortnightly payslips. That divergence is a property of the rules, not an error, and this site implements both paths deliberately.

On a high secondary income the annual and per-period paths disagree by more than cents, because the annual path caps the ACC earners' levy at $2,741 while a payroll system processing a single payday cannot know what the rest of the year holds. The gap between them is the end of year square-up.

5.Rates change, and pages can go stale

Rates are checked against Inland Revenue each 1 April and were last verified on 30 July 2026 for the 2026–27 tax year. Between verification passes a rate can change without this site reflecting it immediately.

Always confirm anything you are relying on against the primary source. Every figure is cited on official sources, and dated changes are recorded on the rates changelog.

6.No affiliation with any government agency

PAYE Calculator NZ is independent. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, authorised by or operated by Inland Revenue, Employment New Zealand, Statistics New Zealand, the Accident Compensation Corporation or the New Zealand Government.

Those organisations are named on this site only to cite them as the source of a published figure. Links to their websites are provided for verification and do not imply any relationship.

7.Limitation of liability

The site is provided on an as-is basis. To the extent permitted by New Zealand law, PAYE Calculator NZ accepts no liability for any loss, cost or damage arising from reliance on the figures, guidance or links published here, including any decision made or not made on the basis of them.

Nothing in this disclaimer limits rights you have under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 or the Fair Trading Act 1986 that cannot lawfully be excluded.

8.External links

Links to Inland Revenue, Employment New Zealand, Statistics New Zealand and other external sites are provided so you can verify a figure at its source. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their content, availability or accuracy.

By using PAYE Calculator NZ you acknowledge that you have read and understood this disclaimer.
