About PAYE Calculator NZ

A single-purpose New Zealand pay calculator. This page says who runs it, how it is built and where the limits are, because a tax site that will not say those things has not earned the benefit of the doubt.

What this site is

PAYE Calculator NZworks out what actually lands in a New Zealand bank account after PAYE, the ACC earners' levy, KiwiSaver and student loan repayments. It covers one country and one system, on the current 2026–27 tax year, and it is free to use with no account and no paywall.

The calculator is the product. Everything else on the site exists to explain a number it produced: what a tax code changes, why an employer contribution is smaller than the headline rate, why a lump sum is taxed at a rate your salary never reaches.

Why it exists

Most New Zealand pay calculators answer a narrower question than the one people are asking. They return an income tax figure and stop, leaving out the ACC earners' levy that Inland Revenue bundles into the same deduction, the employer KiwiSaver contribution that is part of what a job pays, and the tax on that contribution.

This site models the whole payslip in the order a payslip runs, so the output can be checked line by line against the real thing rather than taken on faith. Where our figure and your payslip disagree, the methodology explains which situations cause that and which document is right.

How it is built

  • Every statutory figure lives in one file. No page contains a typed-in rate, so two pages cannot disagree about the ACC cap. When a rate changes it changes once.
  • Every figure is cited. Each constant carries the Inland Revenue or Employment New Zealand page it came from, and those citations are listed on official sources.
  • The engine is checked against Inland Revenue's own casebook. Its output reproduces every row of the Payday Software Developers Casebook 2026–27, which is the reference set payroll vendors certify against.
  • The limits are published. The methodology lists what the calculator deliberately does not model. A tool that implies it covers everything is more dangerous than one that states its edges.

How it is funded

The site is free. It does not charge for access, sell your inputs, run affiliate links to financial products, or accept payment to rank a provider. If that changes, this page and the editorial policy will say so before it happens, and any commercial relationship will be disclosed on the pages it touches.

Nothing you type into a calculator is sent to a server. The arithmetic runs in your browser, which is set out in the privacy policy.

What this site will not do

  • It will not give you advice. It reports the published rules and the arithmetic they produce. It does not know your circumstances and never recommends a course of action.
  • It will not guess at a rate it cannot source. Where Inland Revenue has not published a figure, the site says so rather than estimating.
  • It will not replace your employer's records or Inland Revenue. Your payslip is the document with legal standing. See the disclaimer.

Independence and contact

PAYE Calculator NZ is an independent site. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or operated by Inland Revenue, Employment New Zealand, Statistics New Zealand or the New Zealand Government. Where those organisations are named it is to cite them as the source of a figure.

If a figure here looks wrong, tell us and it gets checked against the source the same way it was set. Email corrections@payecalculatornz.co.nz or contact PAYE Calculator NZ. The editorial policy sets out how corrections are handled and how quickly.
